Five years ago, my health went on a serious
decline. I was unable to walk more than 50 feet
at a time without collapsing or losing my
breath. Climbing stairs and even stepping up
onto a curb was beyond my ability. I suffered
from high blood pressure, vascular
insufficiency, sleep apnea and although there
were more problems, I never sought medical
intervention. Why bother? It was my fault
because I was fat!
I had no personal life outside of being at home
with my husband and children and occasionally
talking with my mother by phone. I never went
anywhere or did anything except go to work. I
was too embarrassed and ashamed of what I had
become to face the public. I was somewhat
paranoid and sure that everyone everywhere was
laughing at me. Some people did laugh and many
looked at me with disgust – I folded within
myself and did not want to face the world.
In the spring of 2006, my father-in-law died of
health complications directly related to
obesity. That was my wake up call. I knew that
would be me in 20 years if I didn’t do something
about my weight. I didn’t want my husband to
deal with losing both his father and wife to
obesity. I became scared and determined to make
a difference in my life from that day on. Work
was the only activity I participated in and even
that was getting more and more difficult to do.

I have wanted to lose weight for over 20 years
and over that time have had varying degrees of
success. After becoming obese, I tried so many
different diets. Weight Watchers, Nutrisystem,
Jenny Craig, the list goes on. I was always very
successful in the beginning but as the weight
loss slowed to about ½-1lb per week it became
discouraging. Soon, I was back to my old habits
of eating to soothe myself out of frustration.
While I always attempted to add exercise to my
plan, I had difficulty sticking with it. I
really needed a plan that I could safely see
results more quickly. When you have over 200
pounds to lose, ½ - 1 pound per week is
daunting. That would take over 2 years of
commitment and until I tried Medifast, the best
I could manage was 6 months.
After my father-in-laws death, I began
researching life after bariatric surgery. During
my research I came across
Medifast. Several
people who have websites available to discuss
their weight loss journeys stated they were
using Medifast. At first, I was intimidated by
the calorie level and quantity of food for a
“meal” and couldn’t figure out how on earth I’d
be able to manage on 800-1000 calories per day,
but I figured it they could do it, so could I.
My biggest challenge with trying to lose weight
has been staying motivated through the long haul
that most diets require without satisfying
results. That was not the case with Medifast. I
saw results immediately! I lost 2 pounds the
very first day! By the end of the first month I
had lost about 30 pounds and knew that I was
onto something.
I began Medifast July 2006, depressed, unhealthy
and weighing 390 pounds. To date, I have lost
255 pounds and have reached my goal weight of
135 pounds. My family and friends have been so
supportive and celobrate each time I weigh-in. I
feel 100,000% time better than I ever have in my
whole life. My blood pressure is down and I have
my mobility back. I now run 5-6 miles 2-3 times
per week and walk at least 3 miles the other
days. On the weekends, my husband and I go
hiking together which I really enjoy!
I am truly happy for the first time in my adult
life. I have battled depression for so long I
don’t remember when I wasn’t unhappy. That is,
until now. I now understand what it feels like
to be “normal”. It’s wonderful!
I can truly say that Medifast gave me my life
back. 15 months ago I had no life and sometimes
wished it would just end. I am completely sold
on the quality of Medifast products, the support
from the Medifast team, and how well the
Medifast community is able to connect with each
other through the website. I have had nothing
but great experiences with the company. I love
the convenience of Medifast prepackaged meals,
the ease of preparation, how simple the plan is
to follow, how well I can use it traveling for
work how fast the results are, and how good I
feel using it.
Having a plan that allows me to lose weight at a
steady weight while remaining safe is the #1
reason I love Medifast so much. Although the
food tastes great and there is enough variety,
it’s really about how good I feel on the plan
and how quickly I’ve been able to change my
life.
Thanks Medifast!
